III. Build your SIGHT Group’s Capacity

Every SIGHT group is encouraged to engage in activities that expand the range of resources available to the group and strengthen the impact and sustainability of their projects.

Capacity Building refers to:

  1. Building the internal human capacity of your SIGHT group.
  2. Building new and existing partnerships with local community & organizations.
  3. Sharing successes & learnings with other SIGHT groups.
  4. Increasing overall awareness of SIGHT both within IEEE and beyond.
  5. Strengthening the overall resources for your SIGHT group.

*Please note: IEEE does not send individual “goodies” (stickers, pens, pins etc.) to individual SIGHT Groups, but a SIGHT Group’s $250 annual rebate can be used for capacity building activities or supplies. We do send “goodies” to select events around the world every year. We will ship extra for attending SIGHT groups to bring back to their communities!

Below are recommended resources to build your capacities:

  • addResources to help you build the internal human capacity of your SIGHT group.

To fulfill this requirement, your group should engage in activities such as recruiting new members, engaging current volunteers, and conducting team building activities. Some suggestions:

  • addResources to help you build new and existing partnerships with local community & organizations.

To fulfill this requirement, your group should make efforts to build and sustain relationships within the community you are working. Developing partnerships can be difficult. Use these resources to get started:

  • addResources to help you share your successes & learnings with other SIGHT groups.

To fulfill this requirement, your group should engage in activities that allow you to share what you've learned with other SIGHT groups and beyond. A few suggestions of ways to do so:

[ Ways to share your successes and learnings ]
    • Present at a conference: take a look at the events SIGHT will be at this year.

    • Submit to the SIGHT Newsletter: Submit announcements or story ideas by the first of each month for a chance to see it in the next month’s edition. Submission guidelines: 150 words or less, include photos with captions, include Web links. Please send correspondence to Rob Goodier at r.goodier@ieee.org.

    • Present in a webinar

  • addResources to help you increase overall awareness of SIGHT both within IEEE and beyond.

To fulfill this requirement, your group should engage in activities that make other IEEE (and non-IEEE) volunteers aware of SIGHT and the opportunities of the program.
